In an effort to modernize and improve the patient experience, Watertown Family Practice embarked on a comprehensive renovation of its original 1981 facility.
The goal: create a more welcoming, efficient, and accessible space that better supports both patient care and staff workflow.
The renovation was strategically divided into two phases to allow the clinic to remain operational throughout construction.
Phase 1 – First Impressions Matter
Completed in 2020, the first phase focused on the public-facing areas of the clinic. Updates to the main entry lobby, reception area, sitting area, and public restrooms transformed what was once a dim, dated environment into a bright and inviting space. Patient flow was improved by reconfiguring layouts, and previously underutilized areas were repurposed to expand the nurses’ workstation and increase exam room space. To minimize disruption, a temporary lobby and reception area were constructed during this phase.
Phase 2 – Enhancing Functionality Behind the Scenes
In 2024, encouraged by the positive results of Phase 1, the clinic moved forward with Phase 2. This stage included extensive updates to the remaining areas: 13 exam rooms, a physician’s office, administrative workspaces, and a large laboratory. Special care was taken to maintain a quiet, comfortable environment for patients and staff by dividing the work into smaller sub-phases and implementing careful separation and protection methods. The renovation also emphasized accessibility, adding a new ADA-compliant restroom and redesigning seven exam rooms to improve ease of access.
A Unified, Modern Clinic
By the project’s completion, the facility had been fully transformed. Consistent materials and design choices across both phases helped create a cohesive look and feel, resulting in a bright, unified, and modern medical environment. The renovation not only enhances daily operations for staff but significantly improves the experience for every patient who walks through the door.
